How NEMT providers are untangling their “spaghetti systems”

Have you heard the expression “less is more?” When talking about your NEMT operation, nothing makes more sense than streamlining to become more efficient. However, a common problem facing many NEMT providers is their inability to consolidate and tidy all functions across their operation. Unfortunately, providers who are using multiple, disjointed platforms or “spaghetti systems” as we call them, are finding it harder and harder to effectively manage all parts of their operation – to keep their members safe and happy.

Cleaning up the spaghetti systems mess

Smart health service providers have one priority – delivering quality care and service to their members! And the first step begins with moving towards ONE nice, neat, interconnected bundled solution. Take Steven Wolfe of Independent Community Transport (ICT) in Polk County, Florida. ICT offers ambulatory and wheelchair transportation, primarily to the HMO population through Florida Medicaid. With 23 vehicles servicing several brokers and HMO plans, ICT started to experience large fluctuations in trip counts from one day to the next, which was negatively impacting their operation. Steven needed to be able to handle a fluctuating trip count to ensure his members weren’t missing trips or having to wait longer than they should.

From Simpli to Novus Migration

As a smaller operation, ICT used Momentm’s Simpli and for a while, this helped to keep ICT’s scheduling organized. They could import and schedule trips manually but as ICT’s trip count increased, and their service area widened, things quickly became disorganized. Trying to keep up with fluctuations in demand created a messy “spaghetti system” of manual (paper) and automated (Simpli) trip management.

Steven quickly realized that ICT needed to consolidate operational efforts to clean up their growing systems mess. Momentem’s NEMT transportation software suite, NovusMed, was the natural next step in that evolution. This all-in-one NEMT software solution was exactly what ICT needed to manage their complete operation, from: dispatching, scheduling, routing, billing, reimbursements, in-vehicle, and passenger information software – all to improve operational efficiency and client service. Upon migrating to NovusMed, Steven immediately noticed that

“The scheduling process for us has become much quicker. When I did the schedule previously, by hand, dragging and dropping each trip into place, it took me the better part of 4 or 5 hours to complete the schedule.

Hungry for an all-in-one NEMT solution?

If your NEMT operation is starting to become a mess of spaghetti systems, or if it’s already a full-blown pasta disaster – cleaning up your operation with a single dedicated NEMT platform as ICT did, can save you and your members time, improving your bottom line, and increase your operation’s efficiency.

“The efficiency in trips, the efficiency in schedules, has positively impacted our payroll hours. There’s a lot less sitting around waiting for trips… and it has definitely saved us money.”  – Steven Wolfe.
